"You're mistaken. Miss Gonzales's boyfriend is Master Ninth."
Master Ninth?
Old Mrs. Somerset looked at Flossie with suspicion. "Master Ninth? Which Master Ninth?"
Master Ninth interested in Caitlin? Impossible. Absolutely impossible.
Flossie retorted, "How many 'Master Ninths' are there in Eldermere?"
Old Mrs. Somerset's eyes widened in disbelief. "You mean... Gordon?" "Yes," Flossie confirmed with a nod.
Old Mrs. Somerset abandoned her opera performance. "You must be mistaken! How could Master Ninth possibly be interested in Freya!"
"Why is it impossible?" Flossie took out her phone and pulled up the trending topic. "See for yourself."
Only after seeing the photos online did Old Mrs. Somerset finally believe it was true. She had seen Gordon once from a distance about ten days ago and had marveled at how young the legendary business magnate was. She never imagined that, in the blink of an eye, he would be with Caitlin.
How could such a magnificent man be interested in Caitlin? What was Caitlin, anyway? She was just a divorced, second-hand woman.
Old Mrs. Somerset couldn't wrap her head around it, stumbling backward a few steps. Flossie quickly steadied her.
"Mother, are you all right?"
Old Mrs. Somerset's head throbbed. She gritted her teeth. "No wonder! No wonder the Gonzales family is acting so arrogant, turning their noses up at someone as outstanding as your brother ot's because they've latched onto Master Ninth! Hmph! Do they really think Master Ninth would be interested in second-hand goods?"
"Impossible!"
Master Ninth was a man of immense status. He was at the pinnacle of the financial world and should be marrying the daughter of a prestigious family. Caitlin, a tarnished woman, wasn't even worthy of being compared to the little toe of a high- society debutante.
Flossie continued, "Mother, whether you want to believe it or not, it's the truth. If Master Ninth is willing to be with Miss Gonzales, it must be because she has some extraordinary quality that others don't."
Caitlin was, after all, a descendant of the Gonzales, and Richards families. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. In Flossie's view, Caitlin was likely just being low-key. In reality, she must be an exceptional person Strong people are drawn to each other. Otherwise, why would Master Ninth, long considered an
untouchable paragon, be so devoted to her?
Old Mrs. Somerset scoffed. "Master Ninth must not know she's been divorced! If he knew she was some unwanted, second-hand woman, he would never be with someone like that!"
Caitlin was disgusting. To latch onto Gordon, she must have hidden the fact that she was married before!
Her eyes narrowed as another thought struck her. "Especially Beatrice. I've heard Beatrice is extremely particular about family background. She didn't even approve of Raven Cartwright. How could Freya possibly pass Beatrice's inspection?"
Raven Cartwright was the eldest daughter of the Capital's most prominent family. Before her accident and disfigurement, she had long been infatuated with Gordon but she could never win Beatrice's
approval. This just went to show how high Beatrice's standards were for a daughter-in-law.
