Chapter 1462:
But just as he took his first step, Saul and Matias appeared, blocking his path.
Bruce stopped abruptly, a deep crease forming between his brows.
“You smeared my name in front of everyone, Mr. Ashton. Did you really think a lame excuse like ‘I had too much to drink’ would clear your name?” Corrine’s voice rang out sharply behind him.
Bruce stiffened, turning slowly to see Corrine leaning against Nate’s shoulder.
She stood with her arms folded, one finger gently tapping her arm. The slight lift at the corners of her eyes softened her stunning face with a graceful curve.
Beside her, Nate held her close, his arm wrapped protectively around her waist. With his tall frame and quiet strength, he radiated the presence of a king watching over his queen.
His eyes locked on Bruce—cold and empty, as if looking right through him.
A wave of fear washed over Bruce as the full weight of his mistake sank in.
But deep down, he couldn’t lie to himself—there was truth in what he’d said, though clouded by alcohol. The thought of Corrine belonging to someone like Nate stung deeply. It hurt that she’d hidden her true identity.
So when he lashed out, it wasn’t just the liquor talking; it was resentment and the bitter taste of regret.
“I’ll admit, maybe I spoke harshly. But you and I both know it wasn’t slander,” Bruce said, trying to claw back some control. “We dated for three years and almost got married. Those are facts. So if it’s true, how can it be considered smearing your name?”
The implication was clear: what they once shared couldn’t just be erased, so Nate dating a woman Bruce had discarded was also true.
Corrine’s lips curled into a bright smile, but the gleam in her eyes was anything but warm. “You’re right—it’s a fact. So why not tell everyone about the little affair you had with Leah during those three years? Don’t act like the victim now, pretending I was the one who betrayed you.”

She hadn’t intended to drag this out. Bruce wasn’t worth the effort. But he kept pushing—twisting the past to use her as a tool to ridicule Nate—and that, she wouldn’t tolerate.
“And while you’re at it, why not explain how you ditched me at the altar for Leah, leaving me to face everyone alone?”
Her words confirmed their past wedding plans. Bruce was stunned into silence.
He had always assumed Corrine kept their history hidden from Nate—concealed the shame of nearly marrying him.
After all, in his eyes, someone like Nate—born into privilege—could have any woman he wanted. So why pursue someone who had been discarded, someone who almost became another man’s wife?
