Chapter 1511:

However, they lost their balance and tumbled to the ground.

The passenger on the motorcycle seized the moment to snatch Corrine’s purse and run off.

Corrine glared in the direction the motorcycle had vanished.

“I can’t believe biker gangs are still a thing,” Karina complained, brushing herself off. Despite the raw scrape on her arm, her concern was for Corrine. “Are you okay?” she asked.

Corrine snapped out of her shock and looked at Karina. “I’m fine,” she responded.

She then noticed Karina’s injury. “You’re hurt!” she exclaimed. “Let me take you to the hospital.”

“What about your purse?” Karina countered, clutching her wrist. “This scrape won’t kill me. We need to get your purse back.”

The loss of the bag wasn’t the crux of the problem. The real concern for Corrine lay in the essentials it contained, like her ID, bank cards, and other personal effects.

After some deliberation, Karina decided that notifying the police was the best course of action.

When the officers showed up, they took down the basics from both Corrine and Karina. A second team scoured the area, and not long after, someone spotted Corrine’s purse tossed beside a garbage bin.

Wilbur, holding the purse with due respect, handed it back to Corrine. “Miss Holland, please check if anything valuable is missing.”

Under normal circumstances, Wilbur wouldn’t personally attend to such matters. However, given Corrine’s involvement, he took no chances.

Since Corrine’s background had been revealed, the entire police station—Wilbur included—had begun treating her with quiet respect. This change in demeanor stemmed from the fact that even Arion, their police chief, held her in high regard.

Corrine inspected her purse. Other than some cash being absent, all seemed intact. “Just lost a bit of money. Thanks for your help, Wilbur.”

Wilbur appeared slightly flattered by her gratitude. “Just doing my job, Miss Holland. No need for thanks.”

Karina noticed the phone still nestled inside Corrine’s purse. “That’s odd. They didn’t take your phone?”

Typically, thieves would take any valuable items they could sell quickly for cash. The phone’s presence was puzzling.

It wasn’t likely they left it intentionally for Corrine to call the police.

Pondering this, Corrine tapped the phone screen, thinking over the possible reasons.

Wilbur stepped in. “Most phones have GPS tracking now. Maybe they didn’t take it, fearing we could trace them.”

Karina’s eyes lit up. That explanation fit better than anything else.

“Mr. Duffy! We’ve got something!” Another officer hurried over and pulled Wilbur to the side, speaking in a low voice.

Wilbur turned back just a moment later. “Miss Holland, we’ll keep you posted the moment we learn more.”
