Chapter 1515:

She glanced at Nate, gave a proud huff, and announced, “I’m leaving now.” Once they had seen Evelyn off, they both turned back inside.

Nate casually draped his arm around Corrine’s waist as they walked toward the room. Abruptly, Corrine halted, gasping, “Oh no!”

“What’s wrong?” Nate’s expression shifted to one of concern.

A flicker of frustration crossed Corrine’s face as she replied, “I forgot to ask Evelyn about our mysterious marriage arrangement.”

The marriage arrangement had been a source of unease for her for some time. She was baffled by the connection of the Ford family to the Hopkins family on the Independent Continent, where the arrangement was set up, and perplexed by the appearance of Kiley’s photo there. Moreover, her grandfather’s vehement disapproval of her relationship with Nate only added to the enigma.

The arrangement seemed to be shrouded in too many mysteries. Something unseen seemed to be pulling her in a certain direction, yet she had no idea where it led or what awaited her when she got there.

“There will be other chances,” Nate offered comfortingly.

Corrine gave a quiet nod.

By four in the afternoon, they left Celtis Estate and drove toward Tomb Mountain.

The place had a dark reputation. Long ago, it had been used as a shooting range, and later, it became an execution site. Criminals met their end there, and that history gave the mountain its grim name.

For reasons lost to time, the area was eventually closed off, forbidding external access.

A few people had snuck in over the years. Most never came back. The ones who did refused to speak about what they saw—and they made sure never to return.

Rumors circulated that the mountain was haunted by spirits unable to find peace, while others heard the roars of beasts, suggesting that intruders were preyed upon. There were even whispers of it being a site for gruesome human experiments.

Whatever the truth was, just hearing the name Tomb Mountain made most people uneasy.

Despite her reservations, Corrine found herself piecing together some theories. Catching her inquisitive look, Nate asked, “What’s on your mind?”

With a mischievous sparkle in her eyes, Corrine responded, “You’ve been in charge of Tomb Mountain for years now, haven’t you?”

It seemed likely that the various rumors circulating about the mountain were Nate’s handiwork, crafted to deter public curiosity.

Nate merely raised an eyebrow, his silence serving as an unintentional confirmation of Corrine’s theories.

Stepping out of the car, Corrine took a moment to observe their surroundings. Thick foliage enveloped the mountain, shrouding it in secrecy like a cloak that no ordinary eye could penetrate.

She slightly closed her eyes, tilting her head to savor the warmth of the sunlight weaving through the leaves, creating a pattern of light and shadow on her face.

Just then, Nate’s voice gently broke the silence. “Do you want to continue this journey with me?”
