Chapter 1533:
“You have two choices: either we all go down right here, or you sign the check. Once you’re on the boat, we’ll hand you a knife to defend yourself. It’s up to you.”
Corrine understood the limitations of her dinner knife. However, a real dagger could genuinely tip the scales in her favor.
“Hand me the weapon first,” she said without blinking.
Without hesitation, the tattooed man pulled out a butterfly knife and tossed it beside her. “Sign now, or we all perish when the time comes!”
Those men were entangled with a merciless network that wouldn’t hesitate to betray their own. A single misstep could doom them all tonight.
Under their watchful eyes, Corrine picked up the butterfly knife, showcasing her adept handling, which impressed and unnerved the men.
She then took the pen and methodically filled out the check. As she signed, Corrine’s mind raced through potential strategies.
She contemplated taking them hostage during the exchange, but that would only solve the immediate threat and wouldn’t reveal the deeper layers of Amelie’s scheme or her backers.
Moreover, escaping now might not deter Amelie for long. It could prompt her to devise an even more foolproof plan for the next time.
After weighing her options, Corrine decided to play along to learn more about the forces behind Amelie.
She handed the check over; then she slid the butterfly knife into her sleeve and wrapped the broken rope around her arms, letting it hang just loose enough to look real. “Take me to the dock. Let’s finish this.”
The two men exchanged looks, both taken aback. They had been thinking of ways to corner her into going. And here she was, walking into it willingly.
The tattooed man wasted no time. After safely stashing the check away, he placed the black hood back over Corrine’s head, his voice low and filled with a tinge of unease. “Don’t hold it against us. To be honest, Miss Hamilton’s people are watching the dock. If we don’t deliver you, she’ll have us both killed. My partner will carry you to the ship. After that, you’re on your own.”

He added hesitantly, as if the ease of obtaining the money troubled him, “Those people are dangerous. Your fate is now in your hands.”
Corrine, smirking silently under her hood, was carried by the fat man. Since when did kidnappers develop a conscience?
The journey was rough, and upon arrival, the fat man spoke in broken Soliborian as he placed Corrine on the ship.
From a distance, Amelie observed the scene through binoculars.
As Amelie watched Corrine being escorted to the boat, a pleased smile stretched across her lips. However, the stiffness in her muscles rendered the smile unnatural, giving it an eerie, unsettling quality.
Amelie knew that once Corrine was aboard that ship, her fate would be sealed. She had pondered deeply before acting. The thought of simply killing Corrine to resolve everything had crossed her mind, but the implications were too complex. After considerable thought, she decided to send Corrine to Soliboria, a decision fueled by the desire to make her suffer profoundly.
With the primary hurdle out of her path, Amelie eagerly made a phone call. As soon as the connection was established, she blurted out excitedly, “I have dealt with Corrine!” Her tone was reminiscent of a child eager for approval after achieving something notable.
However, the response she received caused Amelie’s smile to diminish slightly. “When did you become so cautious? Don’t worry, I handled everything perfectly. Corrine is supposedly at a hotel now. They can’t trace this back to us!” She listened briefly before responding, “Why kill her? Nate loves her deeply. If we killed her, she would be forever idolized in his heart, and you’d never stand a chance with him. But if she’s broken, reduced to nothing more than a shell of herself after being degraded by countless men, even if Nate does find her, he’d be repulsed. How could he possibly welcome her back into his life? Dealing with this Corrine was no easy task. Thankfully, you told me she was trained in martial arts; otherwise, it might have been tough to ensnare her. No matter her strength, she still fell right into my trap.”
“It’s a shame you can’t show your face and witness how well everything turned out,” Amelie said with a sigh. “I never understood why your grandmother told you to back off. Wasn’t she the one who first suggested you should marry Nate? Well, none of that matters now. After today, you’ll be preparing to become Nate’s wife. Who else but you could stand beside him? If it hadn’t been for Corrine showing up and causing trouble, you might already be married to him.”
