Chapter 1541:

“Alright,” Corrine replied.

Once the door clicked shut, Corrine curled into a protective ball atop the bed, slipping swiftly into sleep.

In the study, Nate was engaged in a discussion with Maddox. Just then, Saul rapped gently on the door before entering to inform them that the medical team had departed.

Noticing the severity etched across Nate’s features, Saul hesitated before carefully venturing, “Sir, regarding Amelie…”

He had intended to broach this subject earlier on the deck but had refrained in Corrine’s presence to avoid any potential misinterpretation.

At the mention of her name, Nate’s gaze lifted with glacial intensity. His lips thinned to a razor’s edge as his voice sliced through the air with deadly precision. “This matter is not your concern. If the Quinn family is so eager to court destruction, I have methods already in motion.”

Saul inclined his head in silent acknowledgment, offering nothing further. Inwardly, he pitied the Quinn family from the Independent Continent.

He had credited them with shrewdness, yet their actions revealed nothing but foolhardy recklessness. During their time on the Independent Continent, Nate had displayed an unmistakable preference for Corrine, even directly challenging Andromache and destroying Darrion’s family on her behalf. Such bold actions should have crystallized reality for everyone watching.

Yet, some remained willfully blind to these signals, still daring to target Corrine.

They were toying with devastation itself.

How could Nate possibly show mercy?

Across the room, Maddox idly flicked a lighter, observing Nate with the ghost of a knowing smile. “If she’s troubling your thoughts, go check on her.”

Years of camaraderie had granted Maddox rare insight into the labyrinth of Nate’s mind.

Nate cast him a measured glance. “Unnecessary. She might have surrendered to sleep by now.”

Entering would only disturb her much-needed rest.

Maddox remained speechless.

This rare glimpse into their closely guarded affection caught him off guard.

“Are you truly prepared to take action against the Quinn family over this incident?” Maddox inquired, concern etching lines across his forehead. Though well aware of Corrine’s significance to Nate, he believed this situation warranted deliberate assessment.

Severing ties impulsively would undoubtedly transform the Quinn family into declared adversaries. Should rival factions within the Hopkins family exploit this rift, Nate’s carefully cultivated position might become vulnerable.

Nate fixed him with an unwavering stare. “Those who dare touch what belongs to me must face consequences.”

“That’s true, but…”

Before Maddox could complete his thought, the sharp trill of Nate’s phone sliced through the tension. He retrieved it with fluid grace, studied the screen briefly, and then accepted the call. The caller seemed taken aback by Nate’s swift response, hesitating momentarily.

“Nate, it’s me.” Elva’s gentle voice flowed through the receiver. “I apologize for what Amelie has done. I had no idea she would act so extremely. Her mother mistreated her since childhood, warping her personality. The Quinn family failed to supervise her properly this time. Thankfully, Miss Holland wasn’t harmed. Rest assured, we’ll punish Amelie severely and prevent any future incidents.”
