Chapter 820:

Austin nodded in acknowledgment.

He then reassured Maggie, saying, “Thankfully, nothing happened to you last night. If it had, I wouldn’t have forgiven the entire Mitchell family!”

After a brief pause, Austin added, “Mom, just because Monica helped you doesn’t mean we owe her anything. You don’t have to defend her all the time.”

Austin’s words were rooted in truth. Since Monica had helped Maggie, the Mitchell family had repeatedly made requests of them. While Austin hadn’t compensated Monica directly, he had significantly assisted her family in other ways, effectively settling any debt. Maggie was well aware of this; Austin had made it clear from the start.

Maggie responded, “Let’s leave it at that. Monica and the Mitchell family are separate matters. I’ve promised to look after her, and I intend to keep that promise.”

Maggie then asked, “How is Yelena?”

Austin answered, “She’s fine.”

“That’s a relief,” Maggie replied.

Then, another thought struck her. She warned Austin, saying, “By the way, let’s not tell Monica about this. I don’t want her to feel burdened.”

Austin nodded. “I understand.”

He knew that if there was a need to discuss it further, he would have already done so. However, Austin remained silent, not out of consideration for Monica, but because he didn’t want too many people to find out and start talking about it.

The Harris family took their resort business seriously. Having invested significant effort into it, they naturally wanted to avoid any scandal. Thus, limiting the number of people who knew about the incident minimized the risk of it becoming widely known.

After leaving Maggie’s room, Monica felt a sense of unease.

She decided to confront Bella and went to her room. Upon seeing Monica, Bella was visibly startled and asked with caution, “Why are you here?”

Bella was alarmed, unsure of Monica’s intentions. She questioned whether Monica knew the true motives behind the messages she had sent the previous night. However, since the Harris Group had tightly controlled the information, it seemed unlikely.

Monica responded with a hint of sarcasm, “What, aren’t you happy to see me?”

Bella’s expression shifted subtly as she tried to appear calm, replying, “I’m just surprised. Didn’t Mr. Barton just get back? I assumed you’d have much to discuss with him.”

Monica’s gaze darkened. She indeed had many things she wanted to discuss with Austin, but his reluctance had hindered her.

“I need to talk to you about something. Let’s go inside,” Monica said.

Bella initially considered refusing, but the sound of approaching footsteps made her hastily invite Monica in. “What is this about?”

Monica answered, “Something major happened last night. Why didn’t you tell me? You even messaged me, drawing me here. Were you trying to put me in danger?”

Bella was taken aback, not expecting Monica to be this sharp. Now that Monica was aware, Bella saw no point in concealing the truth. “I’m sorry…”
