Chapter 857:

Just then, Austin’s phone rang. It was Aitana on the line.

Knowing Aitana was likely checking on the outcome of the blind date, Austin answered the call, and Aitana’s voice sounded. “Austin, how was today’s date?”

Austin glanced at Yelena and responded with a smile, “Very satisfactory.”

Aitana had prepared herself to coax him into reconsidering, but hearing Austin’s response, she hesitated, her prepared speech faltering. “Are you sure? I’ll give you another chance to reconsider your answer,” Aitana said.

Austin couldn’t suppress a grin. His suspicions were confirmed. Aitana wasn’t truly rooting for this match; it was a test. She was being strategic, believing that presenting a less appealing option first might make others seem better in comparison.

“You really like her? Didn’t your mother mention you had feelings for some girl?” Aitana inquired cautiously.

Maggie had often spoken to Aitana about Yelena, praising her qualities, yet Austin had hesitated to make a move. Aitana’s subtle pressures were meant to nudge him forward. But now, she wondered if she had misstepped.

“The past is the past; now is what matters. I’m quite pleased with her,” Austin declared confidently.

At this, John couldn’t help but make a face, turning to the side with a skeptical pout. The person he was on a blind date with was the very woman he admired. How could he not be pleased? Yet, Aitana was unaware of this.

“Grandma, don’t worry about it. I like her. You can start arranging the wedding discussions with her family.”

Yelena was taken aback by his words. Her eyes widened in astonishment as she looked at Austin, overwhelmed by the speed of developments. Yelena couldn’t shake the feeling that Austin might be manipulating her.

Not just Yelena, but Aitana too was taken aback. Aitana was speechless for a moment, surprised by Austin’s immediate infatuation with a woman he had just met.

She quickly ended the call, eager to consult Maggie about the situation. Austin, anticipating that Aitana would contact Maggie for clarity, chose not to interrupt them.

Turning to Yelena, he said, “Sorry, don’t take what I just said seriously. I was only trying to keep my grandma away.”

Yelena looked at him coldly. “That wasn’t funny at all. If that’s all, I should be going.”

She was eager to leave, uncomfortable in her hideous makeup.

“Let me drive you,” Austin said eagerly.

Yelena’s expression softened slightly as she asked, “Aren’t you disgusted by my makeup?”

Austin met her gaze and smiled reassuringly. “Why should I be? To me, beauty is about what’s on the inside, not the exterior.”

“And if an accident made this look permanent?” Yelena asked, testing his sincerity.

“That would be fine by me,” Austin replied, his tone sincere and even somewhat hopeful.

Yelena believed that Austin had lost his senses. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have said such things.
