Chapter 1232:

She didn’t usually disturb him during official business, knowing that urgent matters could keep him occupied. But as the hours passed, a quiet anxiety began to creep in.

If he were truly busy, he would have at least sent a message or called. She tried his phone. It was powered off.

Rylie quickly dialed Brock’s number — and what she heard this time was something she never could have anticipated.

Brock’s voice carried the same bewilderment. “Out of nowhere, the President released a classified directive. The moment Admiral Morgan stepped out of his office, he boarded a helicopter and left for a highly confidential mission.”

Rylie’s brows drew together. “Right now? They’re seriously dispatching him on a mission at a time like this?”

“I don’t understand it either,” Brock admitted. “He was supposed to stay here and prepare for the wedding. Why would the President be so heartless as to assign him a mission now, of all times? There wasn’t even any warning, and Admiral Morgan left without taking any of us along.”

By this point, Rylie was convinced something was deeply wrong. She wanted to confront the President directly, but without a scheduled appointment or official clearance, entering the presidential office was impossible.

She went straight to Sean’s residence, hoping his influence could help arrange a meeting. The instant Sean learned that Brad had been sent on a classified mission, rage and disbelief swept across his face.

He had been kept entirely in the dark — yet he still had direct access to the President’s internal communication line. Without hesitation, he placed the call right in front of Rylie.

Less than two minutes in, Sean’s expression darkened with fury. “He should never have been assigned to any mission. He doesn’t even want to keep playing the role of this so-called admiral anymore. Why are you still pushing him into it?”

“Please try to calm down, sir,” the voice on the other end said hurriedly. “Admiral Morgan was not pressured in any way. Neither the President nor anyone else compelled him to act against his will. The truth is that he agreed to the mission and departed immediately. I’m sorry about the circumstances surrounding your family, but this involves national security. I hope you can understand.”

“That is complete nonsense!” Sean — a man who had spent his entire life under strict military discipline and almost never lost his temper — was shouting. He shot a glance at Rylie beside him, his breathing labored. “I know the President is monitoring this internal line. So listen carefully — marrying Rylie is the most important thing in Brad’s life. Even if the country were falling apart, he would never walk away from his own wedding. I know how deeply he loves his wife. There is absolutely no chance he would voluntarily take on a mission at a time like this. So tell me — where exactly did you send him?”

“Sir, please don’t draw conclusions from assumptions that have no basis. As I’ve already explained —”
