Chapter 337:

At that moment, Lennie and the other veterans, led by Brock, had arrived at the door. They had been listening for a while. Rylie’s defense moved them deeply. A young woman, standing strong in their corner — it meant more than words could say.

Lennie stepped in. “Miss Owen is right. I apologize for the scene earlier, but let’s be honest — our skills and theirs? It’s not even close.”

Anthea stood beside him. “If you doubt us, then prove it. Why not settle this with a fair competition?”

Yashiro stepped forward, trying to ease the tension. “There’s no need for that. You’re all national heroes. Your reputation speaks for itself. We were at fault for not verifying things properly.”

“I want the competition!” Trevor cut him off, glaring at the veterans. His resume might have been padded with cash, but his medical skills were real. He wasn’t ready to believe he’d lose to people past their prime.

He turned to the other job applicants. “They haven’t done surgery in years. You really think they can still hold a needle steady?”

Brad finally spoke. “Then let’s compete. We’ll use them.” He nodded toward the hallway outside, where several injured brawlers sat groaning in pain, waiting for treatment.

The police station had a basic medical department, but the doctors hadn’t arrived yet.

Yashiro tried to signal Trevor to stop, but he was ignored. Trevor looked at Rylie. “If we win, what will you say about defending these veterans?”

Rylie turned to a nearby officer. “Mind giving me my phone? I need to make a call.”

The officer returned her phone, which had been taken earlier, and Rylie dialed Rory.

“Rory, are you free right now?”

“I am. What’s going on?”

“Can you bring a few expert doctors to the police station? It’s nearby. Something’s come up. I’ll send you that new medical report on Snow Mint in a couple of days.”

“Snow Mint? You actually got it?” Rory’s voice jumped before he caught himself. Then he chuckled. “No need to trade favors. I’ll be there right away.”

Realizing there was no going back, Yashiro cursed Trevor silently but forced a smile. “Alright then. I’ll have the medical department prepped for the competition.”

Within ten minutes, two military hospital vehicles pulled up outside the station. Reporters at the gate watched closely as Rory and several doctors stepped out and hurried inside.

They turned to one another in surprise. “What’s going on in there?”

One reporter’s eyes widened. “Wait, that’s Rory Carter — the top general practitioner! And those with him… They’re all elite experts! What’s HaloFlow Hospital done to get people like that involved?”
