Chapter 358:

kind heart was evident. Since Zaylee had taken the first step to make things right, Melany was willing to let it go.

With her eyes lowered, Melany finally spoke. “I forgive you — but only if you go to the classroom and make it clear that I had nothing to do with this.”

Zaylee had already thought it through. She nodded, obedient and calm. “I will.” Then she turned to Rylie, her voice trembling with emotion. “Rylie, can you forgive me? I truly regret what I have done.”

Rylie gave a small shrug. “It’s not about me forgiving you. Since Melany already has, I’ll leave it at that.”

Zaylee nodded and forced a faint smile before turning to Brad. “Brad, I’ve resolved things with my classmate and realized how wrong I was. I’m sorry for all the trouble today.”

Brad saw no need to say more. This wasn’t his child, and he knew where to draw the line.

“Is everything settled?” he asked Rylie.

“Probably,” Rylie replied slowly as she walked toward the door. Just before stepping out, she turned to Gorman. “Mr. Robertson, make sure Zaylee gives Melany a proper apology. If this isn’t handled right, I’ll be back.” Brad gave Gorman a polite nod. “Thank you.”

That was when Gorman realized — Brad hadn’t come for Zaylee. He had come for Melany’s sister.

He quickly nodded. “Understood. Since Zaylee admitted fault, Melany will get her apology.”

Brad gave a slight nod and followed Rylie out. Due to their height difference, he leaned in a little, speaking gently — his tone softer than before. “I have something for you. Come with me to the car.”

As he walked away, Zaylee noticed the tenderness in his retreating figure. Melany stepped beside her and whispered, “Still think they’re from different worlds? Your lies won’t ever become truth.”

Zaylee snapped her head around and glared. “Watch your mouth.”

Later, during the break, Gorman led both girls back to the classroom. He asked Zaylee to go up to the podium and apologize.

Zaylee had composed herself, though her eyes were still red. Her fingers gripped her sleeve tightly, and her shoulders trembled as she stood before the class. She cast a nervous glance around the room. When her eyes met Melany’s, a tear fell right on cue.

“I’m really sorry, Melany,” she said softly, her voice laced with sobs. “I wronged you.”

The room fell silent. All eyes were fixed on her.

She lowered her head, and a tear splashed gently onto the podium. When she wiped her eyes, more tears streamed down.

“I truly know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have blamed you for stealing my necklace. I still don’t know who hid it in your pencil case as a joke… but it was my fault.” Her voice cracked. “I hope no one misunderstands Melany, and I hope she keeps all her friends. And I hope you don’t hate me for this. I’m sorry.” Zaylee bowed deeply in Melany’s direction.
