Chapter 449:
Brock tried to keep his expression neutral. “Of course, Dr. Owen isn’t naive. Her academic struggles in high school were mostly due to how overly pampered she was by her family — and she never minded.”
Rylie had always spoiled her loved ones without limits. It was a trait the entire Owen family shared.
If she cared about someone, she would protect them with everything she had. Brad knew that all too well. He was painfully jealous of the Owen family — jealous that they could dine with her, call her casually, and travel with her as they pleased.
And him? He was always kept at a distance. She’d even returned most of his gifts — except for the custom-made dress. He’d made sure the label clearly stated it was a one-of-a-kind piece, tailored exclusively to her size. He’d even instructed the store to add a card: If refused, this design will be destroyed.
Thinking about it now only made his mood worse.
Brock could practically see snowflakes swirling around Brad — his heart must have been chilled.
Nervously, Brock racked his brain for a distraction and suddenly remembered something. “Admiral Morgan, the principal of Brightwood High emailed the base a few days ago. They’re hoping to collaborate with the military after the senior exams for a winter camp.”
Brad replied without looking up, “Handle it as usual.”
Brock cleared his throat. “Refuse it? But if we agree to the partnership, you might need to attend. And there’s a chance you’d run into Dr. Owen…” Brad looked up. His blank stare was enough to freeze the room.
A shiver ran down Brock’s spine. “Forget I said anything. I’ll just — leave now.” He turned to walk out, but Brad’s voice suddenly stopped him. “Always saying no to people isn’t a good habit. Accept the offer.”

Brock froze, speechless.
The next day, the school posted a public announcement on its website:
“Regarding the recent senior monthly exam, and after discussion with the involved teachers and the Department of Education, Brightwood High will hold a Q&A-style exam at 2 PM this afternoon in the school auditorium. Teachers will pose questions on the spot. Anyone suspicious of Melany Cohen cheating is welcome to participate. The school has reviewed all complaint letters. After the session, strict action will be taken based on findings.”
That morning, no one could concentrate in class. All eyes were on the clock. Everyone was waiting for 2 PM.
This would be the first time Brightwood High took such a public and serious approach to investigating an academic scandal.
With no answer leaks this time, how could Melany possibly cheat?
As soon as the bell rang, students rushed to the auditorium. Many skipped lunch, grabbing only drinks so they could claim front-row seats.
A few students close to Zaylee gathered, chatting while glancing at the girl seated opposite the judges’ panel in the front row, whispering, “She’s Rylie, isn’t she? It’s said she always had the lowest scores in high school. And now she’s sitting right in front — is she participating in this exam? Seriously?” one whispered.
