Chapter 543:

Rylie’s brow lifted. “For Zaylee? Mr. Morgan, you really do put that debt above everything else, don’t you?”

Sean caught the edge in her tone. “I know you’re displeased. I also know there’s bad blood between you and Zaylee, but for my sake—”

“Not happening,” Rylie interjected. “If you won’t keep your people in line, I’ll do it for you. Actions have consequences.”

She smiled and added, “Of course, you’re free to keep cleaning up her messes.”

Sean had expected a refusal. Without a word, he reached into his briefcase and pulled out a thin file, its cover marked with a special insignia.

“Your brother has been trying to secure the rare metals mining project in Yareth. I have connections there—I can help smooth the way.”

Rylie’s eyes flickered. The value of this file was far beyond the few stalls Zaylee wanted. They weren’t even close.

A thought crossed her mind. Something didn’t add up.

“Zaylee is deeply flawed. Why go this far to protect her?” Rylie asked.

Sean spoke evenly. “Zaylee is still young and lacking in maturity. She needs time to grow. The only reason I’m still breathing today is because her grandmother risked her life to save mine. I vowed to her that I would protect her family, ensuring they would never face hardship. This will also be the only instance in which I overlook her cruelty and malice.”

In truth, Sean knew precisely what had transpired. Yet, he believed that everyone was capable of error; what mattered was whether they learned from those mistakes. “By driving her classmates into bankruptcy and exposing her actions, you’re destroying her.”

Rylie’s eyes lingered on the rare metal mining agreement, her expression contemplative.

She turned toward Kendrick. “Grandpa, this arrangement is important to Felix, isn’t it?”

Kendrick, still oblivious to the turmoil Connie and the others had stirred at the hospital, responded, “It is, though I can’t quite grasp the specifics of this arrangement.”

At his confirmation, Rylie reached for the papers. “If this is an alliance Felix holds in high regard, then exchanging it for a few branches of ‘Nexus Future’ sounds like a reasonable arrangement.”

“Reasonable? What’s reasonable about it?” Her words were abruptly cut off by a cold, cutting voice. Deandre entered with a purposeful stride, a finely adorned gift box in hand, his expression simmering with anger.

Without sparing so much as a glance at Sean or Kendrick, he went straight to Rylie and set the box down on the coffee table with a resounding thud.

“Anyone who dares to harm you should pay with their life,” Deandre said, his tone edged with steel. “Rare metals? What worth do they hold compared to what you’ve endured?”

He spun toward Sean, contempt searing in his gaze. “You senile fool. Time has dulled your mind. You would go to such extremes for that haughty, poisonous girl? Throwing away your most treasured resources just to sweep up her mess and clear her path?”

Sean’s expression hardened. “Deandre, mind your mouth! Zaylee IS—”
