Chapter 549:

Through the gap in the door, Zander caught sight of his boss, someone he never imagined would witness such groveling.

The normally stern and frugal head of Evergreen Media Works now looked like a grinning mascot, showering praise on the young woman behind the desk.

Zander was left stunned.

So, the online rumors accusing Rylie of harming him hadn’t come from Evergreen Media Works. Then who was behind them?

Elaine.

She was shifting the public’s focus, intent on driving him out of the boy group. But for what reason?

He was the lead singer, the company’s brightest star, the one who brought them endless wealth.

Zander’s expression dimmed, his shadow stretching as he slowly disappeared down the hospital corridor.

Rylie truly had no recollection of the man standing before her, yet once she learned he was the head of Evergreen Media Works and Elaine’s immediate superior, the encounter took on a curious edge.

She gave her pen a light, playful spin. “I’m free today. Let the patient sit, and we can have a proper conversation.”

The man promptly guided his pregnant wife into a chair and said warmly, “Dr. Owen, you are my family’s savior. I will see to it that my child grows up treating you as one of our own.”

Rylie studied the wife of Evergreen Media Works’ president, Felice Crawford, who had once earned the Actress of the Year award. Years of relentless devotion to her craft had left her health in decline, burdened by several chronic ailments. After repeated attempts with IVF, she had finally conceived. Yet, the child, now approaching seven months, faced severe complications, including umbilical cord entanglement, malposition, and pronounced malnutrition. Felice herself struggled with drug allergies and epilepsy, conditions that made many physicians unwilling to take her case.

Following a brief examination, Rylie determined the situation to be under control and handed over a prescription. “These can only be purchased at Aetheris Pharmacy. Prepare them fresh each week, take them until one month before delivery, and then return to me for a new prescription.”

Felice’s hand moved tenderly over her abdomen. “Will this guarantee my baby’s safe delivery?”

“I’ll reposition the baby, and it will be born,” Rylie replied with certainty. “But I am concerned you may not have the strength for labor. Your chronic illnesses, coupled with your body’s poor absorption of nutrients, mean that what little you take in is going entirely to your baby. If your condition does not improve, the risk could be fatal for both of you.”

Rylie continued, “Ordinary supplements will have no effect on you. You will need the medication I prescribe, along with the plan your nutritionist provides.”

Felice nodded, and then she asked, “And what will that cost?”

Rylie answered evenly, “Nearly one million a month.”

The president of Evergreen Media Works agreed without hesitation. “If my son arrives safely, I’ll pay whatever is required.” He then extended a bank card toward her. “I’m fortunate to have crossed paths with you today, Dr. Owen. This card holds five million for your consultation fee. If that’s insufficient, I’ll arrange more.”
