Chapter 550:
Rylie pushed the card back to him. “We’ll settle this after the baby arrives safely.”
Felice offered a warm promise. “If my child is born without complication, I will be deeply in your debt.”
After sending the couple on their way, Rylie found herself surrounded by a group of medical specialists, delivering a lecture that carried on throughout the morning. She only dismissed them when the strain in her voice made clear she had spoken long enough.
In the end, Rory was the sole remaining visitor in the clinic.
Rory had intended to share his latest technological developments with Rylie, yet an overseas call interrupted the moment. The exchange was brief, but by the time it ended, a crease had formed on his forehead.
“Letty, this is beyond what I can do. Securing your place at the Royal Academy of Arts already exhausted my connections. If you cannot clear the next set of evaluations, then perhaps you’re not excellent enough to study there. It would be better to return and look for work instead.”
When Rory hung up, the weight of disappointment still lingered on his face. Rylie asked, “Your daughter?”
Rory let out a weary sigh, unaware of the strain between his daughter and Rylie. He said, “I am not getting any younger, and my wife and I were blessed with a daughter. I have been deeply worried about her. She refused to remain in Crolens to teach and insisted on going to Ostium to pursue further studies. I made some arrangements to secure her admission to the Royal Academy of Arts. She is eligible to enter the D-level doctoral campus, yet the academy’s demanding evaluations are designed to test even the most gifted students. During her time there, she must guide three undergraduates to a standard that allows them to enter the D-level academy, while also passing the doctoral examinations to officially become part of the academy.”
Letty had only discovered these details after an in-depth conversation with the assessment staff. Possessing an invitation to the academy did not ensure enrollment, and earning a postdoctoral certificate was an even greater challenge.

The Royal Academy of Arts was composed of four campuses—A, B, C, and D—each ranked according to performance, along with a mysterious S-level campus reserved for individuals of exceptional skill. Every year, students had the opportunity to move up to higher-level campuses based on merit, with academic difficulty increasing twofold at each step. Rylie knew a little about the academy, as her grandfather’s friend was the head of the Royal Academy of Arts. That special invitation still remained tucked away in her drawer.
She offered a faint smile. “We can only hope she has good fortune.”
The next day, Rylie was preparing for Zander’s surgery when a message from Felix appeared on her phone.
The bidding for shops in the ‘Nexus Future’ business circle was set for today, and he would be unable to attend. He asked her to stand in for him and oversee the bidding.
Rylie returned the call. “Was the bidding date moved up?”
Felix answered, “Yes, the whole schedule has been accelerated. Rylie, could you go in my place? Consider it a good chance to learn, alright?”
Hearing the sincerity in his tone, Rylie found it difficult to decline. “I understand. I’ll make sure to be there on time.”
Felix let out a light chuckle. “The entire process will be handled by professionals. There won’t be any media coverage, just a private auction, so there’s no need to feel pressured. Just attend as the Owen family’s daughter.”
