Chapter 600:
A woman appeared at the doorway, her suit perfectly pressed, makeup flawless. She rested against the frame with studied ease.
“I’m the head of administration, Zuri Lambert,” she said, her smile too polished to be real, her voice coated in false sweetness. “Apologies, Miss Owen. We’re swamped right now, and every proper office is occupied. This is the only room free at the moment. You’ll need to manage here until something better turns up. I trust you’ll understand.”
Rylie stayed at the doorway, refusing to step inside. Her gaze swept across the pitiful space. Her lips curved upward, forming a smile that gleamed cold as glass.
“So this is how Sweetberry shows off its prosperity — by dressing storage rooms as offices,” she said, her words sharp and deliberate, each one cutting like ice. “Quite the welcome.”
Zuri’s smile faltered, her mask slipping at the unexpected reply.
“No wonder those girls outside say the building is nothing but a pretty shell hiding a mess,” Rylie went on. She handed Zuri a folder and checked her watch. “There’s still an hour until the meeting. Tell me, is the conference room ready?”
Zuri stiffened, her hand tightening around the folder. “The top-floor conference room is in use today.”
“I remember I confirmed the reservation with you already,” said Rylie, her voice flat and unyielding. “You can’t even manage a task as simple as this?” Rylie looked at her expressionlessly. “Your abilities clearly don’t match your current position.”
From the very beginning, Rylie had done nothing but expose her failures. Red with anger, Zuri snapped, “Oh, really? And what exactly can you do? Fire me?”
Rylie spoke coldly, “I have the handover papers, and the contract is signed. Do you really think I can’t fire you?”
Zuri froze for a moment, her mouth momentarily silenced. She knew the Garrett family would be a challenge for Rylie, but she herself wasn’t part of that family. She couldn’t afford to cross this new director. It would be better to leave it to the real power players to handle.

Grinding her teeth, Zuri turned and motioned for Rylie to follow. “Come with me. I’ve already informed senior management about the meeting. Whether they show up or not isn’t my problem.”
Rylie had barely walked a few steps when a woman with red-rimmed eyes and glasses rushed up to her. She stopped in front of Rylie. “Are you the new director, Miss Rylie Owen?”
Rylie nodded.
The woman shoved a letter into her hand. “Here’s my resignation. I don’t even want severance. Just sign it, and I’ll be gone.”
Before Rylie could respond, the woman turned and walked away.
Rylie looked down at the letter. At the bottom was the name: Alyssa Sugden.
She was the Head of Fabric Development, Purchasing Specialist.
Rylie paused, then called out, “Alyssa, wait.”
Alyssa turned back. “Yes, Ms. Owen? Something else?”
“Come to my office in an hour. We need to talk. I won’t approve this resignation.”
Alyssa pressed her lips together. She didn’t understand why, but she nodded. “Alright.”
