Chapter 724:

The condiments here were most likely expired.

When she didn’t answer, Brad considered briefly before saying, “Let’s head out and do some shopping.”

At the same time, Rylie proposed, “Why don’t we just order delivery?”

Their eyes met, and Brad lightly pinched her cheek. “And what about the fish? I’m not letting the present you brought me end up in someone else’s pot.”

Rylie blinked at him. “Then let’s go buy what we need.”

“Hold on a second.”

Brad went back to his room to change, coming out in a gray pullover sweater and black trousers. Even dressed down, his wide shoulders and solid chest stood out, the very image of rugged strength.

Rylie averted her gaze and pushed the door open. “Let’s go.”

“Hold on.”

He retrieved a red scarf from the cabinet, drew Rylie toward him, and wound it snugly around her neck until her chin was nearly hidden.

Brad softly pinched her cheek. “They’re saying the first snow of the year will fall tonight. It’s chilly out.”

Without hesitation, he slipped his hand into hers and guided her outside. The corridor lights flicked on one after another, casting a glow over their joined silhouettes.

Across the hall, a few elderly men coming back from a chess game paused, rubbing their eyes.

“Have I been staring at the board too long? Did I really see that? Wasn’t that Brad walking with Rylie?”

“No chance. Lately, it’s been Selah covering at the clinic. Rylie herself hasn’t shown up in a long time.”

“Wait, isn’t there already gossip going around that the two of them are seeing each other?”

“No. It was clarified long ago that the supposed relationship was nothing more than a cover to allow Rylie to check the equipment on a naval vessel.”

The two elderly men continued their discussion as they strolled from the apartment building toward the park. There, they unexpectedly crossed paths with Brad and Rylie.

Under the glow of a streetlight stood a tall man, easily six-foot-three, holding the hand of a young woman who barely reached his shoulder. Their quiet, striking features gave the simple park an air of romance, as though they had stepped into a scene from a film.

The old men froze for a moment, taking in the sight.

Brad recognized them and gave a polite nod. “Sir, you’re still out this late?”

“We just finished a game of chess. And you two?”

Brad answered, “We’re going to the supermarket to pick up a few things for dinner.”

“How nice. Cooking for yourselves is a good habit. Nowadays, there aren’t many young people who know how to cook.”

The men fell silent as they watched the pair walk away. One of them let out a soft sigh. “They’re both such good kids. If they stay together like this, they really are a perfect match.”
