Chapter 795:
Then, with a shift as subtle as it was deliberate, Felix turned, shielding Rylie with his presence. His voice gentled, yet still rang with finality. “Rylie, pick the day. Let Crestview Group and Elegance meet their shared ruin.”
The stands fell into suffocating silence. No one watching the race dared so much as exhale.
Felix’s words were never empty; once spoken, they were as good as carved in stone. And by the look in his eyes, this time, his anger was no passing whim.
In the private VIP suite of the club, Zeke Burgess, who regarded Felix as his most important business partner, had been waiting patiently. When he overheard the disturbance at the viewing stand, he immediately hurried out to investigate.
“Mr. Owen, the coffee has already been prepared. Why are you still standing here?” Zeke’s bright and genial voice cut through the oppressive silence that had fallen over the crowd. With a courteous smile, he added, “I thought you promised to introduce me to your sister today. This young lady must be Miss Owen, am I right?”
Rylie, aware of the many eyes watching and not wishing to appear discourteous, especially when she still had business matters to discuss, gently tugged at Felix’s sleeve and said softly, “Shall we go inside for a while?”
With a smile still on his face, Zeke said, “A mysterious gift has arrived, promised as a special surprise. I haven’t opened it yet; care to see it with me?”
Felix immediately caught the subtle shift in Paola’s demeanor. The fleeting gleam of eagerness that lit up her eyes was something he could not overlook.
Placing a steady hand on Rylie’s shoulder, he directed her into the private room before turning his attention to Zeke and instructing him to lift the lid of the gift box.
When the box was opened, it revealed nothing more than a messy bundle of raffia and a single memory card. Zeke retrieved the card with a baffled expression. “The sender described this as a treasure without equal, yet it turns out to be nothing but a camera’s storage card.”
Rylie instinctively shifted forward, but Felix acted first. With swift precision, he seized the card and tossed it straight into the steaming coffee without a trace of hesitation.
Zeke’s eyes widened at the decisive gesture, and when he noted the grim severity etched across Felix’s features, he understood at once that this matter was far from harmless. His quick mind grasped the gravity immediately, and he moved with composure, quietly exchanging the tainted coffee for a fresh one. “It appears I have been deceived. I will assign someone to investigate this matter without delay.”
Felix’s voice was firm and controlled. “There is no need for that. Have the Perry boy and his companion dismissed immediately.”
Zeke carried out the order at once. He even went a step further, issuing an official notice at the gates of the racecourse that prohibited Mylo and any of his animals from entering the premises again.
From the expansive, curved windows of the top-floor private suite, they had a clear view of the unfolding scene below. Security personnel approached Mylo and Paola, escorting them firmly out of the grounds in front of a watching crowd. Mylo’s face burned crimson with shame, and his humiliation boiled over into fury. In his rage, he nearly struck one of the guards, but his movements faltered when he unintentionally shoved Paola to the ground, sparing himself from an even greater scandal.
As the two were led away in humiliation, their gazes caught sight of the freshly mounted notice, and Paola, overcome with rage, swayed on her feet as though she might faint.
