Chapter 797:

However, once their harassment of Rylie became relentless, his patience reached its limit, and he refused to endure it any longer.

Unable to reach the Owens and realizing their resolve to crush him, Terrance flew into a violent rage. The sound of shattering glass echoed through the house as he hurled whatever was within reach.

Paola, startled by the noise, hesitated before creeping from her room. The moment she stepped into the hall, her father’s bloodshot eyes snapped to her. His voice was raw, edged with fury. “Paola, you’ve been staying home like I told you, haven’t you? You haven’t stirred up more trouble for me, have you?”

A sudden shiver worked its way down Paola’s spine, and she shook her head, trying to gather her composure.

Terrance leaned in, his voice low. “With all the chaos at home, you ought to consider finding someone who can offer security. There’s a friend of mine — Grady Archer. He’s recently lost his wife, but he rebuilt his wealth from the ground up. You’ve met him before. What’s your opinion of Grady?”

“Actually, I’m already involved with someone. Mylo’s the heir to Crestview Group.”

A thoughtful pause followed before Terrance spoke again. “Crestview Group isn’t a bad match. Their assets in the food business rival Grady’s fortune. If you can land a marriage with Mylo, there’s no reason to chase after Grady’s alliance — at least for now.”

Quick to agree, Paola rushed upstairs, her hands shaking so badly that she nearly dropped her phone. Felix knew exactly what had happened to Rylie but still chose to protect her. Things had not gone as Paola had imagined.

Besides, Grady was sixty, and the rumors about his private life sent chills through her.

In her mind, Mylo felt like her last and only hope.

But when she finally called Mylo, she got his mother instead. Veda’s tone was cold and direct. “Paola, I’ve seen girls try to get close to wealthy men since I was a teenager. Mylo’s too trusting for his own good. Maybe he can’t see your intentions, but I can. Do yourself a favor and keep your distance.”

Paola spoke up without thinking. “Mrs. Perry, Mylo and I genuinely care about each other!”

A sharp laugh echoed over the line. “Is that what you believe? What if Brad ruins our business and we lose everything? Would you still stand by Mylo if he didn’t have a dime to his name? The only thing my son has going for him is the money he was born into.”

Paola hadn’t expected such scorn from Mylo’s parents toward their own son, but she knew Clive and Brad were acquainted and that their business wouldn’t suffer. Firmly, she replied, “Mylo has many qualities; I just discovered them a little late.”

Hearing Paola speak up for him, Mylo grabbed for the phone, desperation in his voice. “Paola, just hold on — I’m coming for you!”

Suddenly, the call disconnected.

On the other side, Veda nearly stumbled when Mylo brushed past her, her eyes filled with bitter disappointment. “I refuse to go up against Brad. He’s made his position clear, and so have I. Unless you get down on your knees and beg Miss Owen for forgiveness — and end things with Paola — you are no longer my son.”

Mylo held the phone so tight that his knuckles turned white. “I’ve loved Paola for years! I’m not giving up on her! Why is everyone defending Rylie? What makes her so special?”
