Chapter 850:
“Why?” Rylie asked softly. She couldn’t bring herself to see him as a man driven by greed. If he were, he wouldn’t carry those scars or bear the burdens that came with his service to the nation.
Brad’s eyes held hers, the starlight glimmering in their depths, her reflection faint within them. His voice was low and measured. “To give you the protection you deserve, and to fulfill what I must.”
He reached out, brushing aside the loose strands of her hair that fluttered in the ocean breeze, his touch filled with quiet care. “There are too many who want me gone. They’ve retreated for now, but aside from the President, no one else remains to stand at his side. My grandfather would never allow me, as a naval admiral, to stain our family’s name. So I have to move. The radicals won’t stop; they’ll return, more vicious than before. I won’t let you get caught in their chaos because of me. Yet, I can’t bring myself to lose you either. So I’ll walk a road I’ve never known before. It won’t be easy, but with you beside me, it won’t feel impossible.”
Rylie’s gaze shimmered with a faint, unmistakable emotion.
Her thoughts drifted to the secret shared between her grandmother and Kailee, sensing that it might hold the key to helping him.
In her heart, she made a silent vow to do everything she could for him.
Before the ship reached the harbor, a momentous event took place.
Mylo proposed to Paola, and the instant the ship’s signal was restored, he called his parents, declaring his firm decision to marry her no matter what stood in the way.
Clive and Veda responded without hesitation, “Congratulations. We won’t be offering any wedding gifts or attending your ceremony; our attention is solely on our new son now.”
Even then, Mylo failed to grasp the full gravity of their words. Once the call ended, he turned to his companion and said lightly, “They’re just trying to scare me. They won’t actually disown me. Paola and I will register our marriage first. Eventually, they’ll see she deserves to be part of our family.”

His friend stared at him as though he were hopeless. “You didn’t check the news online when the signal came back this morning?”
Mylo frowned. “What news online?”
Evan, passing by with a faint smirk, answered before anyone else could. “The news online that your parents actually disowned you, of course.”
“Evan! Stop talking nonsense!” Mylo snapped, irritation flashing across his face at the foreigner’s teasing tone. “You’re just envious because Paola chose me!”
Evan chuckled lightly. “Hardly. There’s nothing to be jealous of.”
After Evan walked off, another man hurried over, gripping Mylo’s arm and thrusting a phone into his hand. “Evan wasn’t lying! Look for yourself, it’s all over the news online! Your parents really did cut you off!”
Mylo’s fingers tightened around the device as his eyes moved across the glaring headline. The arrogance in his expression faltered, replaced by disbelief and a flicker of dread.
“How could this happen?”
Clive and Veda appeared at a live press conference, publicly announcing that they were cutting all ties with Mylo and that he would inherit nothing from the family estate.
