Chapter 867:

The threat struck at the deepest fear a mother could harbor. Their poverty and lack of influential connections were an undeniable reality. Though she yearned to press for justice on her son’s behalf, she could not risk his schooling.

Swallowing her pride, the poor woman finally reached out, pressing lightly on her son’s back, ready to bow and apologize. But before she could, Rylie stepped forward and stopped her. With a calm smile, she asked the wealthy woman, “What’s your husband’s name? Which department does he work in?”

The wealthy woman narrowed her eyes suspiciously. “Why do you want to know?”

Rylie smiled lightly and looked at Felix. “He’s dressed like this because he has an upcoming interview at Owen Group. Perhaps you could say a good word for him?”

Although the wealthy woman had been a housewife for years, she could tell that Felix’s suit was of excellent quality — maybe this man was from a rich or powerful family. Thinking that it might be useful to make a connection, she replied with a touch of pride, “What a coincidence, my husband is the HR director at Owen Group’s branch in Crolens.”

“Oh,” Rylie replied, turning toward Felix with a faint smirk. “So it seems the standards for HR directors have really gone down these days.”

Felix raised his phone, his gaze steady on the smug woman standing before him, and calmly dialed Alistair.

“Alistair, I think it’s time we replaced the HR director at our Crolens branch.”

Alistair’s voice came clearly through the receiver.

“May I ask the reason?”

Felix replied evenly, “He can find out from his wife himself.”

Without hesitation, Alistair responded, “Understood. I’ll handle it right away.”

The woman still hadn’t realized the gravity of the situation, but the firm authority in Felix’s tone made it clear he wasn’t bluffing.

Her chest tightened, yet she forced out a derisive laugh.

“Trying to intimidate me with words? You and your sister sure think highly of yourselves. Do you really believe a single call can scare anyone? My husband has been with the Owen Group for more than ten years. Replacing him isn’t as easy as you think.”

The onlookers exchanged hushed whispers. Some dismissed Felix’s words as a bluff, while others, recalling his reputation from online reports, knew just how powerful he truly was.

Things were starting to get interesting.

Barely two minutes later, the shrill ring of a phone cut through the murmurs. The woman frowned and pulled it from her bag, her husband’s name flashing across the screen. As her eyes flicked toward Rylie’s calm, knowing smile, a chill of unease crept over her.

The moment she answered, before she could utter a single word, her husband’s furious voice burst through the speaker, loud enough for everyone nearby to hear.

“Darla, what have you done? You were supposed to be with our son at the play center! Who did you provoke this time? Mr. Townley just called and said Mr. Owen dismissed me immediately because of you! Ten years of effort, all ruined!”

Darla Wall’s face turned ashen.

“I was only helping our son retrieve his toy from some troublemakers. There was a man and a woman, but how could they possibly be…”
