Chapter 876:

“Tuna sandwiches and sushi, all homemade.”

Brad accepted one, waiting for her to take the first bite before eating his share.

As Rylie nibbled on her sandwich, she loosened the ribbon and opened the folder. Inside were documents outlining several highly investable yet disputed parcels of land in Crolens—properties that had recently drawn Terrance’s attention.

Brad watched the goldfish gliding beneath the surface, scattering a few flakes of food as they gathered in a flurry of motion.

“The government intends to designate Echo Valley in Crolens as a new city landmark under a major urban redevelopment project. The central district is nearly finished, and the next phase involves expansion. They’ll…”

…construct new residential and commercial zones centered around Echo Valley. Since Detour Inc. specializes in real estate, Terrance is bound to seize the opportunity.”

Rylie studied the confidential map laid out before her.

“How did you get this?”

“Echo Valley’s design was commissioned to Havenridge Group’s architects,” Brad replied. “As for the surrounding districts, I made rough sketches based on preliminary plans.”

Rylie gestured toward several marked zones near the proposed landmark.

“So these are the properties Detour Inc. plans to pursue.”

Brad’s lips curved slightly as his gaze lingered on the map.

“That’s what you think too? Those plots may look promising because of their proximity to the city center, but they’re all privately owned by a man named Gregg Baxter. His family has held the deeds for decades. Theoretically, the value is enormous, but in practice, they’re difficult to develop.”

He turned another page.

“There’s solid bedrock beneath the area. Constructing high-rises there would take twice the usual time. On top of that, the subway can’t be extended due to geological restrictions, which makes transportation a major issue. Compared to the outskirts, this land offers far less potential.”

Rylie looked up.

“So you think Detour Inc. will still go after it?”

Brad tossed the last handful of fish food into the lake, watching the fish thrash beneath the shimmering surface. A faintly cryptic smile touched his lips.

“They will. Laurel’s Elegance brand is on the verge of collapse. Paola’s scandals, combined with the factory’s ongoing issues, have dragged down Detour Inc.’s stock. Even though the pressure from your family has eased, investors are still uneasy about when the company might face another crisis. Terrance needs a major project to restore his reputation.”

Rylie acknowledged the logic in his reasoning but added thoughtfully,

“Even so, the problems you mentioned would require enormous capital. Just securing the land would cost a fortune. Where would he find that kind of money to risk?”

Brad wiped the remnants of fish food from his palms, his voice dropping into something suggestive.

“Gregg recently turned sixty. He has a weakness for beautiful, younger women and… unconventional preferences.”
