Chapter 877:

Rylie’s brow lifted slightly.

“So Terrance planned to marry Paola off to this older man, Gregg?”

Brad nodded.

“Gregg’s cousin happens to oversee development planning and construction permits for the new district. If the marriage had gone through, Terrance would have used that connection to secure Detour Inc.’s advantage.”

Rylie considered it for a moment.

“Does Gregg have that much wealth?”

“Not particularly,” Brad replied. “He’s past his prime, but his influence still runs deep.”

After a brief silence, Rylie exhaled softly.

“Paola knew she was expected to marry an older man, so she settled for Mylo instead. It’s a pity she never truly loved him.”

Brad handed her a can of juice, his expression calm.

“If she had been sincere from the beginning, things wouldn’t have turned out this way. Clive and his wife would have welcomed her for Mylo’s sake. Unfortunately, her priorities were money and ambition, not affection.”

Rylie took a sip, her gaze distant as a thought surfaced.

“Evan has already gone back to his country. Do you think she’s still waiting for him?”

Paola returned home and carefully put her belongings in order. During the three days she and Evan had agreed upon, she stayed in contact with him online every day.

But nearly a week passed before Evan explained that business troubles in Crolens were keeping him from leaving as planned.

Paola messaged him, asking whether he could buy her a plane ticket and give her his home address so she could wait for him there. Evan refused, saying he didn’t want her to see his place in such disarray and form a poor impression of him.

Unease churned inside Paola, an irritation she struggled to suppress. Yet, remembering that her future depended on him, she swallowed her frustration and replied patiently, promising to wait.

Just then, Percy burst into the room.

“Dad says you need to attend a dinner party. Dress up now.”

Paola’s eyes widened in alarm.

“I’m not going. Why should I?”

Percy lingered by the doorway for a moment before blurting out,

“All right, I’ll tell you the truth. My friends are flying to Rledo on a private jet tonight. You could go with them. It’d be a nice break for you.”

“And why would I leave?” Paola muttered under her breath. “Even if I flew off on a private jet, Mom and Dad would drag me right back. Besides, I’m waiting for my boyfriend here.”

Percy frowned, struggling to rein in his frustration.
