Chapter 883:

Her reputation may have fallen, but her allure remained—a rare blend of elegance and defiance that continued to stir envy.

Gregg’s gaze lingered on her before he released a practiced sigh.

“I would be more than willing. Since my wife’s passing, life has felt unbearably hollow. To have someone like Paola by my side again would be both a comfort and an honor.”

Terrance leaned back slightly, his voice turning deliberate, each word carefully measured.

“And it would bring great benefit to my daughter as well. A union between our families, both personal and professional, would be ideal.”

Gregg, discerning the true motive beneath the courteous words, asked without hesitation,

“You’re referring to parcels A7 and A8 near Echo Valley, aren’t you?”

Terrance offered a weary, humorless smile.

“To tell you the truth, the Owen family—the wealthiest of them all—has already turned their backs on us, and Detour Inc. is barely managing to stay afloat. My niece holds a grudge against me for reasons I can’t even comprehend, and she keeps pressing harder by the day. I’m simply trying to survive through all of this.”

Gregg arched a brow, his tone edged with curiosity.

“I’ve heard some talk about that. But even if I were to give you advance notice about those two parcels of land, I’m afraid they may already be beyond your reach. Havenridge Group representatives were here just yesterday to conduct a survey.”

“Havenridge?” Terrance’s face drained of color at once. “They’re targeting the landmark near Echo Valley as well?”

“That’s right,” Gregg confirmed, a faint trace of amusement glinting in his eyes.

Terrance’s complexion turned ashen. This development was far worse than he had anticipated.

Then Laurel spoke abruptly, her tone sharp.

“I heard someone high up at Havenridge has close ties with Brad from the Morgan Group. Could it be that they plan to have the Morgans place the bid instead?”

Gregg shook his head slowly.

“Brad? No. The Morgans aren’t even on the bidding list.”

“Then Havenridge is bidding directly?” Terrance asked, his voice dropping low. “If that’s the case, we don’t stand a chance.”

Gregg replied evenly,

“They’re an international conglomerate, yes, but they don’t have a branch office in Crolens. So even if they win the bid, they’ll still need local partners to carry out the project. In the end, that land will remain in local hands.”

Comprehension flickered in Terrance’s eyes.

As long as the Morgans were not involved, Gregg could easily influence the outcome and secure control of the development for himself.

If Detour Inc. managed to collaborate with Havenridge on acquiring the two parcels near the bell tower, their plunging stock value might finally stabilize. And even if the project proved difficult or slow to yield returns, Gregg’s wealth and influence would ensure the company’s survival.
