Chapter 977:

“Do not worry about me. Focus on Lucilla!” Rylie immediately pushed Brad’s hand away. She maneuvered the Ferrari through the flow of vehicles like a fish sliding through water, each shift in lanes and burst of speed executed sharply and boldly. Taking full advantage of the small car’s agility, she kept forcing the pursuing SUVs to fall behind.

Brad caught Lucilla’s hands to stop her from creating further danger while using his free hand to pull up the navigation for Rylie. He tapped the screen and said, “Go here. It is a shopping mall. With Christmas approaching, it will be crowded. We can get into the underground parking.”

“They are armed to the teeth and highly skilled,” Rylie said in a steady voice, still able to evaluate everything even while fleeing at full speed. “They do not seem like simple hired muscle. They resemble trained mercenaries.”

“It’s Carter,” Brad said, speaking the single name.

A frantic pursuit tore down the highway and spilled into the main city routes, sending fear through the nearby drivers as cars veered aside and scrambled to clear a path.

The red Ferrari cut a breathless trail through the flow of traffic, yet the black SUVs stayed on them with a persistence that was impossible to shake. Bullets kept slicing past, scraping along the car’s exterior and leaving frightening dents.

The bodyguards in the escort vehicle struggled to reach them, yet as they pushed closer to the city’s center, the congestion grew so heavy it became nearly impossible to offer meaningful assistance.

In the back seat, Lucilla was tossed around by the fierce movements of the car. Her lips quivered, and her stare was fixed with harsh, terrified concentration on the back of Rylie’s head, frightened that Rylie might be harmed.

She paid no attention to the danger surrounding them and only wished to hurl herself over Rylie and act as a living barrier for her.

Seeing this, Brad had no choice but to clasp her trembling hands, trying to steady her breathing. When her panicked whispers of “Sweetie, sweetie…” refused to cease, he bent closer and spoke in a low, firm rush. “She is fighting to keep us alive right now. Please stay quiet and let her get us out of here.”

“Sweetie…” Lucilla stared at Rylie’s steady silhouette behind the wheel, and astonishingly, a fragile calm began to settle over her.

Brad kept his voice soothing. “We’re going to make it. Everything will turn out fine.”

At last, the massive mall sign appeared ahead of them.

Spotting the entrance, Rylie jerked the steering wheel sharply to the right in a nearly impossible maneuver. The tires screamed as the Ferrari shot into the dim stretch of the underground parking area.

The vehicles chasing them barreled in only seconds after. The parking structure was a labyrinth, a thicket of pillars where cars squeezed through narrow lanes.

Drawing on every ounce of ability and the Ferrari’s quick response, Rylie threaded through the confined paths, cutting between columns and slipping past the three heavier SUVs. A few near collisions scraped metal, each jarring sound making their nerves jolt.

“Find an elevator or an emergency exit,” Brad urged. Those areas usually had cameras, security, and more foot traffic.
