Chapter 983:
Rylie, unbothered, raised an eyebrow, her expression cool. “Makes sense.”
Brad tilted his head, a thoughtful expression crossing his face.
“That explains why the halt went completely under the radar.” Laurel blinked, curiosity flickering in her eyes. “What do you mean?”
Rylie shook her head lightly, a faint smile playing on her lips. “Oh, nothing. The Terra Games inspections should wrap up soon, right?”

“In just a few days,” Laurel said with a note of pride. “I also heard that the Kirks used Rylie’s funds to snap up the surrounding plots. It may turn out to be a windfall after all; once the Terra Games venues are finished, the land around them will skyrocket in value.”
Rylie arched an eyebrow. “So, I should be thanking you?”
Laurel laughed softly, the sound warm yet self-satisfied. “No thanks needed. We’re family.”
“Family? I don’t think so.” Felix’s voice cut through the room like ice as he stepped in, shrugging off his coat. His sharp gaze zeroed in on Laurel. “Before I call security, please make sure your freeloading family leave my house, Mr. Terrance Owen.”
Terrance lounged on the sofa, letting his wife take charge, smug satisfaction settling over him. But Felix’s brusque tone quickly erased that composure. Bolstered by the relief of a profitable deal, he turned on Kendrick with a challenge. “When did Felix start acting so insolent?”
Kendrick made no effort to mask his irritation. “I’m only a retired old man; this home isn’t mine to boss around.”
Felix’s eyes landed on Terrance, and Rylie’s words from the car replayed in his head. Looking at Terrance and Laurel, who had tormented his sister, his face curled with contempt. “Get out!”
Terrance rose, anger simmering, unable to hold back a taunt aimed at Rylie. “Lucky for me I stood my ground and didn’t let you change my mind. It’s absurd how those shareholders nearly bought into your nonsense and defied me. Do you know what they’re thinking now? Detour Inc. simply can’t function without me. So what if you know a bit about medicine? You’re still far too green. How could anyone possibly approve you joining Detour Inc.?”
He stepped nearer to Rylie, his voice dropping to a menacing whisper. “You won’t inherit a single thing. Try to fight me for it, and I’d sooner see it torn to pieces than let you claim one share.”
His declaration roused a white-hot fury inside Rylie.
Rylie’s gaze narrowed. She spun on him in an instant and drove a savage kick into his thigh.
Terrance let out a guttural cry and crashed to the floor, sending a shock through everyone present. Rylie’s expression turned steely as she pressed her foot against his neck, the heel digging into the vulnerable flesh of his throat.
Terrance’s face burned with rage as he clawed at Rylie’s calf, muscles straining to break free. Yet that deceptively slender leg bore down with the weight of iron—unyielding, immovable. No matter how he fought, he couldn’t shake it off.
