Jenna let out a helpless sigh. "Erhan really harbors a lot of resentment toward Wendy." James grunted in response, choosing silence as he followed behind. None of them noticed Jenna watching them walk away, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Ethan, wait for me!" The familiar voice reached Wendy's ears just as she handed Emily to her colleague. She looked up toward the entrance and saw Jenna holding Ethan's hand, walking alongside James.

The three of them appeared very close, as if they were a real family. Strangely, Wendy accepted this truth without feeling anything. After James and Erhan were discharged, the discussions about them faded quickly. After all, they had worked with Wendy for many years at the hospital, and most people who interacted with her understood her nature. Whenever she was mentioned, it was often to complain about how James and Jenna had secretly carried on their affair, leaving Wendy feeling betrayed.

Despite all of this, even when Wendy heard the whispers, she pretended she hadn’t. She enjoyed the peace that came from not having people mention "your husband" or "your child." After a week without James, her mood lightened. She realized that she missed Ethan much less than before. Wendy clocked out of work at five in the afternoon. After changing out of her scrubs and leaving the hospital, she received a call from Liam. "Did you read the revised draft?"

Liam's voice on the other end was calm, a hint of warmth threading through his tone. Wendy was momentarily speechless. "I haven't had the chance yet. But is it really necessary to call me every day to ask? Besides, isn’t it too early in the morning over there?" There was a pause before Liam replied, "I was buried in papers for too long. I've got the day off, so I can catch up later. You just got off work?"

"Yeah, I'm on my way back now," she said, heading toward the dormitory. "Not eating yet?" Liam asked, concerned. Wendy replied, "I'll cook when I get back." "What are you going to cook if you haven't bought anything?" Liam teased, prompting a chuckle from Wendy. "What’s gotten into you? You used to only call to discuss business, or at the very least, to talk about trading documents. Now you’re chatting?"

Overseas, Liam raised an eyebrow at her use of the word "chatting." After a moment's pause, he said, "I wanted to ask if you could do me a favor." "Of course, as long as it's something I can manage," Wendy replied, a trace of amusement creeping into Liam's voice. "I have a place in Norristown that my mom left for me. I've been abroad for so long that I haven't had a chance to go back."

Wendy remarked, "Oh, I see—you want me to take a look for you?" "Not quite. It's been empty for a while, and I’d prefer you stay there to keep it from falling into disrepair." Wendy went silent. It wasn’t until she reached the dormitory that she hesitantly said, "Liam, about living in the—" Before she could finish, he interrupted, "Don't overthink it. I just don’t want that place sitting empty. And don’t worry. My mom passed away at the hospital. The house was bought for me, and no one’s ever lived in it!"

Wendy responded anxiously, "That's not what I meant." He chuckled lightly, his demeanor as indifferent as it had always been. "I didn't want you to feel uneasy. Just do me this favor, Wendy. Don’t forget, you still owe me." Wendy's heart skipped a beat; Liam's tone was sincere. He wasn't merely pretending to offer her a better living situation as a favor. She stopped in front of the building and glanced up before saying, "Alright, I'll do it. But you didn’t have to bring up the house to push me into it."

Liam let out a brief chuckle, so quick that Wendy almost missed it. "The keys will be passed to you tomorrow. I've arranged for someone to help you move too." Wendy was surprised. "So soon? Are you back already?"
