---- Chapter 129 Gregory had once told Wendy that he was getting older, so she would eventually need to shoulder more responsibilities as his last protégé. With this perfect opportunity presenting itself to her, Wendy was not going to shy away from it. Before leaving, Gregory spoke to her just outside the hospital room. "Right now, you'll only need to be responsible for Ms. Hurst. All your other duties will be put on hold for the time being, It shouldn't be too difficult." Wendy nodded.
"Aside from the symposium, there really isn't much else on my plate. Don't worry, Dr. Hendrix. I'll fulfill my responsibilities." Gregory responded with a satisfied nod. After seeing him off, Wendy returned to the hospital room and took the initiative to brief Margaret on the details of the symposium. She explained everything professionally, but in terms that Margaret could understand. Margaret nodded from time to time as she listened.
After asking a few basic questions , Margaret had no further concerns about the upcoming treatment process. "Since I've met Dr. Hendrix before this, we can be considered ---- friends , but I still don't know much about you, Dr. Sanders. Why don't you tell me a bit about yourself so that I can get to know you better? That way, I'll be able to cooperate with the treatment plan more effectively." Her tone was gentle, which was somewhat at odds with her stern appearance.
"T've been working at the hospital ever since I returned from studying abroad." Faced with Margaret's curiosity, Wendy was straightforward as she talked about herself , holding nothing back about her background. "Are you married?" Margaret suddenly asked. "Forgive me if that's too personal." Wendy paused for a bit, then replied indirectly, "I have a five- year-old child." As for the divorce, she planned to avoid letting that news reach Robert at all costs.
Margaret didn't press for a direct answer, simply nodding with understanding . "Oh, and what's your relationship with Liam?" Wendy was slightly taken aback. "You're acquainted with Liam?" "T've known him for many years. Did he not tell you?" Wendy stared at her, unsure of what to say. ---- Liam had never mentioned Margaret. But from her reaction, Wendy figured they must be on very familiar terms. If they really were that close, it didn't make sense for Liam to keep this from her.
Unsure whether Liam had deliberately withheld it or if Margaret was just testing her, Wendy offered a neutral reply. "We've been friends for many years." Margaret gave her a knowing look before smiling faintly. "Did you hear that? Dr. Sanders said you're just friends. If you don't step up your game, it'll simply stay one-sided." Margaret's gaze shifted to a point just behind Wendy as she spoke in a teasing note that did not match her appearance.
Wendy froze at her words before turning around in confusion. The person they'd just been talking about was now standing right behind her. She opened her mouth, but for a long time, not a single word came out. Shock flickered across her face before it gave way to an emotional smile. "Liam, you're back!" Her voice trembled ever so slightly, betraying her current emotions. ---- They hadn't seen each other in as many years as Wendy and James had been married.
The man standing before her at the moment looked almost exactly as he had six years ago. He was still full of confidence and presence. Liam's eyes were always as light as a clear spring, yet profound in depth. Aside from a slightly different hairstyle and a more mature outfit, his handsome features hadn't changed at all. Time had left no mark on him. As Wendy gazed at him, her eyes began to blur. In the quiet of the hospital room, she asked her second question before Liam could even speak, "What are you doing here?" If there hadn't been someone else present , Wendy would've gone over and hugged her old friend on the spot.
