---- Chapter 230 James was supposed to be a ruthless and decisive businessman in the corporate world. Yet, for some reason, he always acted impulsively like some hot-headed teenager in front of Wendy. In the end, Liam arrived with medical staff and managed to separate them. Both Elias and James were injured. The doctors and nurses rushed to bandage their wounds, but by the time they had calmed down, Wendy was already gone from the room, along with all her belongings. Liam had disappeared too.
In the car, Wendy leaned against the passenger seat, closing her eyes exhaustedly. After loading Wendy's things into the car, Liam got in and gently draped a blanket over her upon seeing that she was asleep. When they arrived at the apartment complex, Liam didn't wake her. Leaning against the window, he turned his head slightly to gaze at Wendy. Her sleeping face should have looked peaceful , but her brows were tightly furrowed.
---- Feeling bad for her, Liam instinctively reached out to gently smooth the crease between her brows. Wendy wasn't supposed to be some fragile porcelain doll. She was strong and radiant, like the blazing sun in the sky. Seeing her like this now, constantly anxious and fearful, Liam felt as if his heart was being squeezed so tightly he could hardly breathe.
In just six short years, she had become the complete opposite of who she once was-someone who would bury all her true feelings deep inside. Liam didn't notice that his brows were also deeply furrowed. All ofa sudden, his phone vibrated. He glanced down at the new message. "The people following Ms. Sanders around were all vetted by Mr. Frank. They have clean records and are mostly serving as bodyguards or in similar roles." "We're already here?" Suddenly, he heard Wendy's sleepy voice.
Liam instinctively locked his phone and looked up. "Yeah. Put your coat on before you get out. It's a bit chilly outside." Wendy didn't notice his subtle movement. She reached for her coat and put it on. "Why didn't you wake me? I must've made you wait for a long time." ---- "That's not true. We just arrived a moment ago," Liam replied as he got out of the car. "Hungry? I can swing by the grocery store close by and make something for you." Wendy nodded. "Sure.
I'll come with you." They walked side by side toward the complex entrance. From a distance , they looked just like any ordinary young couple. Immediately after her discharge , Wendy threw herself back into preparing for Margaret's surgery. Because the operation had been delayed, she had to redo much of the planning from scratch. Her fractured leg still hadn't fully healed, so she had to walk with a crutch. Many at the symposium doubted whether it was wise to schedule the surgery so soon.
But after two surgical simulations, Wendy's increasingly better results silenced all skepticism and opposition. Once the surgery was officially rescheduled, Wendy finally felt a huge weight lift off her chest. As for Flynn and the person behind the two criminals who kidnapped her, it was now up to the police to deal with them. Her only remaining concern was finalizing her divorce from James. She still felt bitter about missing the window to finalize the divorce. Ever since she made James storm out in anger, she hadn't ---- seen him in a week.
