---- Chapter 286 'That was why, when James first saw Wendy, he had felt anger. She must've forgotten who she was-as long as they weren't divorced, she was still Mrs. Frank. But the moment he imagined Wendy trembling in fear, he couldn't bring himself to be mad at her. All he wanted to do was ask her if she was hurt. The two of them stood facing each other, unmoving. Wendy didn't expect James to say something like that. It made all the anger in her sputter out like a flame blown out in the wind.

She stared at James and was about to speak when a body blocked in front of her. It was Liam who appeared suddenly and blocked their view of each other. "Mr. Frank, this is a hospital. Dr. Sanders is very busy. If you keep delaying her time, you would delay the time of the patients who need treatment and help." His voice was calm, but to James, it sounded like a provocation.

Wendy sharply noticed the shift in James' expression and said immediately, "If there's anything you need me for, we can talk after I'm done working. The best treatment for Jenna's ---- condition right now is to rest. If you're worried about her, you should let her rest in her bed instead of walking around." After finishing her sentence, she grabbed Liam's arm and walked away. When he saw this, James gritted his teeth and was about to chase after them when Jenna grabbed him from behind.

"James, my head hurts. [want to go back to rest." Her voice was weak and trembling, making her sound pitiful. Slightly annoyed , James frowned but didn't shake her hand off. Instead , he turned and brought her back to her hospital room. Although he knew Wendy was in the hospital, James had almost never met her. Ifhe hadn't gone out of his way twice to meet her, he probably wouldn't have met Wendy at all for the whole time he was in the hospital. Was she avoiding him?

The thought flashed through his mind, and James' gaze dimmed. When she was with other men, she could speak softly and spend time with them. She could even touch them carelessly. So, why was it that she avoided him? "Are you okay, James?" Jenna asked curiously when she noticed that James' expression had turned dark. ---- James returned to his senses and shook his head. "It's nothing. Rest well. Something happened in the company, so I need to go." After he said this, he turned to leave.

Jenna suddenly called out to him. "James..." James turned back, his gaze falling on her. "What is it?" She pursed her lips. In the end, she could only give a small smile and shook her head before saying, "It's nothing. Be careful on your way. If you're too busy tonight, you don't have to come visit me at the hospital." James didn't agree or disagree with her. Instead , he just left silently. The smile on Jenna's face disappeared the moment the door shut.

The way James looked when he stared at Wendy was still ingrained in her mind. Recently, James had been feeling more impatient with her. Or maybe, the correct question to ask herself was-when did he start showing his impatience on his face? Jenna no longer remembered. However, she remembered that after Wendy was kidnapped , James's attitude toward Wendy changed drastically. Why was this happening? Did she have to act like a pitiful victim to make him pity her and to regain his attention?

---- She stared at the sunlight outside the window blankly. Her whole body felt cold. The door of her room was pushed open. Jenna returned to her senses and looked toward it in anticipation. She thought Ethan had come. But when she saw who it was, the hope in her eyes instantly turned into disappointment.
