---- Chapter 54, After helping Jenna to a chair, James had already forgotten what he originally wanted to ask. After leaving the patient room, Wendy first stopped at the nurses' station to give some instructions , then went to the pharmacy to collect the medication. But she didn't deliver the medicine herself. Instead, she handed it over to a nurse along with the bill to be brought to the room.
When Jenna heard the nurse speak, she frowned and said, " Even if Wendy's no longer Robert's granddaughter -in-law, she could still remember everything he's done for her. Does James have to pay for this?" The implication was that Wendy was cold-hearted and ungrateful for all Robert had done. But she didn't realize that James' expression remained unchanged despite her words. Jenna bit her lip and said nothing more. By then, it was already 1:00 am. The hospital was quiet.
Since Wendy wasn't on duty tonight, she had planned to leave once everything was done. Just as she reached the ground floor, a car's headlights suddenly lit up in the parking lot. The blinding light made her instinctively raise a hand to shield her eyes. She heard James' voice. "['ll drive you home." ---- He was the one in the car. Wendy frowned and ignored him, turning straight toward the main entrance.
But the car followed her at a slow and steady pace, as if refusing to give her any chance to say no. Outside the hospital gates, Wendy suddenly stopped walking. James hit the brakes and looked at her with cold eyes. "If you want to play, Ican play with you." With her hands in the pockets of her trench coat, Wendy turned, her gaze cold and indifferent. "Play? Mr. Frank, you're overthinking it. This is a hospital.
If you want to play, why don't you take Jenna back and play with her?" The sarcasm in her words was unmistakable. However, it somehow sounded to James like something else entirely. He stared at Wendy, a confident smile creeping onto his face. "No matter how well you pretend, you might fool others, but not yourself." "What are you trying to say?" "You still have feelings for me, Wendy.
Everything you're doing is just to get my attention, isn't it?" Wendy froze slightly , staring at James in disbelief. Thinking he had struck a nerve, the smugness in James' eyes deepened. "Tadmit it. Right now, you've succeeded," he said as he stepped out of the car, drawing near Wendy. "So, what do you ---- want?" What he wanted to say was that he would forgive everything, as long as she came home. But by the time the words left his mouth, they had twisted into a demand.
Wendy crossed her arms in front of her chest, clearly on guard. She didn't let him get closer and gave a mocking smile. "What do I want-can you even give it to me?" Seeing the brightness in her eyes, James' heart skipped a beat. He thought she was about to soften up and immediately nodded without hesitation. "Tecan." "I want you to stay away from me. Pretend you don't know me when you see me. Show up at the courthouse in 20 days to finalize the divorce." She enunciated each word slowly.
Under the street lamp, her lips moved in the dark. She was clearly saying things that were ruthless and meant to push James away, yet it made something inside him itch unbearably. Before he could say anything, James' arm had already wrapped around her waist. "Say that again?" The words came out low and rough, like a growling beast. It was full of displeasure and aggression. ---- Wendy frowned and took a step back. "What are you doing?
Let me go." The more she resisted , the stronger James' impulse became. He wanted nothing more than to draw her in and never let her leave his side again.
