---- Chapter 75 "T don't want a new dad!" Ethan screamed in panic. "I only have one daddy-I don't want another one!" What James had said earlier was meant as nothing more than a bitter remark. But now, upon hearing Ethan spiral like this, he grew increasingly agitated and rubbed his temples in frustration. "stop crying," he ordered. "T don't want a new daddy..." Though Ethan tried to hold back his sobs, afraid of making James angrier, his tears still streamed down his face.

After all, he was only five years old. Beside them, Jenna lowered her gaze, hiding the smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. When she spoke, her voice was laced with a sigh of feigned concern. "Don't be scared. I'll take care of you and your dad too," she said. Ethan lay against James' shoulder, biting his lip to stop from crying aloud as his body still trembled. He gently patted Ethan's back, then looked toward Jenna." Are you alright?" James asked. Jenna shook her head, her eyes reddened.

"I'm okay... as long, as Ethan's alright." ---- Ethan's sobs slowly faded. In a soft, nasal voice, he whispered, "Thave you and Auntie Jenna. I'll be strong." "Keep it together, alright?" James said calmly. "When we see Great-Grandpa, no more tears. If you cry again, we'll go straight home." He bit down on his lip and nodded seriously . "I won't make him worry." Jenna forced a small smile. "Then let's head up. We don't want Mr.

Frank Senior waiting too long." It was already late, and if they waited much longer , Robert would probably be asleep. If Ethan was going to throw a tantrum, it needed to happen soon. As she walked behind James and Ethan, Jenna looked at their backs and couldn't suppress the curve of satisfaction rising on her lips. She had been worried. With Wendy working at the hospital , bumping into James constantly , it was too easy for them to reconnect.

That was why Jenna had done everything she could to keep them from meeting alone. But today, Wendy had practically handed her the perfect opportunity-driving both James and Ethan farther away from her. When they reached the hospital room, Jenna stopped just outside the door. She said softly , ''James, I'll wait out here. Mr. Frank Senior ---- doesn't like seeing me, and I don't want to ruin his mood." Her words dripped with quiet resignation , her voice tinged with sadness.

It made James frown slightly, clearly moved. "Alright. We won't be long." Even though he didn't insist on bringing her in-or say a single word in her defense -Jenna was content. His concern was growing, and that was enough. If she could get him to care just a little more each time, she was confident that one day, she'd fully replace Wendy and become Mrs. Frank. Soon after, laughter echoed from inside the room. Robert's voice rang out heartily , cheerful and booming .

He didn't sound like hw as sick at all. Jenna pursed her lips. She'd expected Ethan to whine and complain to Robert-to tell him everything that had happened earlier. But instead, what she got was this- warmth, harmony, joy. She couldn't barge in now, not when things were going so well. No matter what she said, it would only make her look bad in Robert's eyes. So she stood just outside the glass door, telling herself to be patient. There would be other chances.

Later that night, after leaving the hospital , Ethan remained ---- quiet and visibly downcast. When she saw this, Jenna gently offered, "James, why don't I stay with Ethan tonight?" After glancing at the rearview mirror, James saw Ethan curled up in the back seat, fast asleep -but still crying in his sleep. He nodded. "Thanks. I'd appreciate it." He'd never been good with kids, even though Ethan was usually easy to soothe.
