---- Chapter 89 The office door was halfway open, but the sight of the two figures on the couch was fully exposed to Jenna's view. Although both were appropriately dressed, James had his arms braced on either side of Wendy's head and had at least half an arm's length between them. Still, an air of tension still hung in the room, instantly suffusing the space. The sound of the door opening startled the two inside.
Wendy turned her head just as Freddy quickly averted his gaze, awkwardly trying to stop Jenna from entering. But Jenna pushed forward, shouting in shock, "Wendy, how can you do something like this? We're at the company!" She said it as if the scene before her was Wendy's fault and James had nothing to do with it. "Freddy." A cold voice came from inside the office, and James' tone was laced with warning. Having worked with James for many years, Freddy knew precisely what that tone meant.
He reacted quickly, closing the door, but Jenna was even quicker , blocking the doorway to stop him from shutting it. ---- "James, do you need me to call security?" she asked. She looked at James, hoping for an explanation. If he had said it was Wendy's doing, that she had seduced him, Jenna would have believed it without question. But James didn't even glance at her. His eyes were fixed on Wendy, who was resisting him. "Are you satisfied now?" he asked.
Wendy bit her lip hard, refusing to answer. Not getting any response, Jenna refused to give up and tried to step further inside. "If this gets out, it'll be bad for James' reputation." Freddy directly grabbed Jenna's arm, pulled her away, and shut the door behind them. He lowered his expression. "Ms. Jenna, you're overthinking it. Whatever happens between Mr. and Mrs, Frank in the office is private.
They're married, and it won't affect his reputation." He could already sense the restrained fury radiating from the silent James. Jenna, now desperate, hissed, "What does this have to do with you? Get out of my way!" Freddy advised, "Mr. Frank hasn't said anything. If you keep interrupting, he will get upset." She hesitated, unwilling to anger James further. ---- But the image from just moments ago was too shocking. She gritted her teeth, thought momentarily, and then pushed past Freddy.
With a calm that belied her earlier anxiety, she glanced at Freddy. "You're James' assistant , so you should understand how much his reputation matters. If it's damaged, it could affect the entire company." Freddy lowered his head. "You don't need to worry about that, Ms. Jenna. After all, you're just Mr. Frank's secretary." Jenna stared at him, her teeth clenched. "You're only talking back to me today because Wendy showed up, right?" "You've misunderstood, Ms. Jenna. I'm Mr.
Frank's assistant, and everything I do is for him," Freddy said with a faint smile. He threw her own words back at her, shutting her down completely. Jenna was left speechless. She turned and stormed off in frustration. Inside the office, the room finally fell silent. Wendy stared at James, her voice icy. "Are you done with the act? Can I get up now?" Before James could respond, she forcefully pushed him away.
"Isn't this what you wanted?" He furrowed his brows, a hint of frustrated displeasure in his eyes. ---- "I never said that. It was you who dragged me upstairs , then pretended to be intimate with me in front of Jenna just to see how much she cares about you, wasn't it?" Wendy's words were sharp, each striking James' heart like a bullet. His brows furrowed deeper. "Do you even know what you're saying?" Wasn't she always saying that he had an inappropriate relationship with Jenna?
Now that he was willing to play along and put on an act of affection, why did she feel repelled? He watched her silently. After a moment of silence, Wendy suddenly scoffed. "I know. I'm just a tool." James froze, his gaze filled with confusion. He had only wanted to make it clear to Jenna that he was committed to Wendy, but why was Wendy speaking like this now? "What do you want, exactly? Just tell me. There's no need for this act," he said, frowning.
"Ts it me who's acting?" Wendy's patience was wearing thin as she glared at him. "You didn't say a word when you came in, and only after Jenna spoke outside did you pretend to be affectionate with me." ---- She didn't want to keep playing this game with him any longer.
